UPDATE: Scottish Self-Build and Renovation (Highlands) 2021

We continue to be so grateful to the NHS, and to both the UK and Scottish Governments, for the continued successful rollout of the vaccine programme which, either directly or indirectly, is contributing to the continued drop in new COVID cases, and ultimately hospitalisations and deaths. It's heartening to see everyone doing their bit to contribute to its success and to see a gradual relaxation of lockdown restrictions. We watch, with a sense of relief, as life cautiously and gradually returns to some sort of normality.

In this update, we're covering:

1.  Scottish Self-Build and Renovation (Highlands) 2021

2.  Scottish Self-Build and Renovation (Tayside) 2021

3.  Early Bird Accommodation Offers at Macdonald Aviemore Resort from £59

Scottish Self-Build and Renovation (Highlands) 2021, sponsored by Scotframe

We continue to monitor closely the general trends of COVID cases across Scotland and also the specific guidance around events, the latter of which has been subject to multiple updates over the past 8 weeks, the last one made on 26 April 2021.

We have been in continued dialogue with Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Highland Council about our various events within those council areas, specifically Highland Council for the upcoming Scottish Self-Build and Renovation (Highland) 2021 event, scheduled for 19 and 20 June 2021. Whilst they are supportive of this event going ahead (at this time) and for us to self-certify the event (in terms of managing the COVID risks), we are concerned by the developing situation in Moray and the continued "attendee" capacity of 100 (for Level 1) in the venue at any one time, which was re-affirmed in yesterday's update provided by the Scottish Government.

We have an online system in place to manage pre-registration and capacity numbers on an AM or PM basis both days, and we also have a system in place to manage social distancing within the venue, but we have a remaining concern about the effectiveness of the event for each exhibitor. In addition, if Moray (and/or any other areas) were to go into a further lockdown and/or have local travel restricted, then this again could impact the success of the event.

We are hugely conscious that we have already re-scheduled events previously due to the ongoing situation, but we feel that the right thing to do this time is to postpone the Highlands event and move it out to September 2021 when we are reasonably confident that the majority of the adult population, if not all, will have been vaccinated and remaining restrictions will be lifted to an extent that we can all enjoy a reasonably normal and better attended event, since this will be the first Self-Build event to be hosted in Scotland since lockdown. We have been in discussions with Macdonald Aviemore Resort and we are pleased to be able to confirm new dates as 11-12 September 2021.

Scottish Self-Build and Renovation (Tayside) 2021

We have also been in discussions with the Dewars Centre Perth regarding the Scottish Self-Build and Renovation (Tayside) 2021 event, which has been scheduled for 18-19 September 2021.

We have been informed by the venue operators that the NHS has extended their use of the venue as a vaccination centre until at least September and possibly beyond, depending on NHS's requirements to use it as a vaccine booster centre.

The venue has had to release our booking for September and they have asked if we wish to reschedule. We have tentatively booked 19-20 March 2022 as an alternative option for Tayside but we await the return from holiday of the Events Coordinator to confirm. I'll be in touch with those that have booked for Tayside on the original September dates.
